L’incidente di Nisour Square (Baghdad, settembre 2007) ha acceso i riflettori sul ruolo che le aziende private di sicurezza (PSF – private security firms) ricoprono negli scenari bellici contemporanei, e specialmente nel contesto iracheno. Quest’ultimo si presenta a oggi come il massimo esempio di privatizzazione di un conflitto, essendo stato raggiunto lo straordinario numero di oltre 140.000 contractors in campo, sostanzialmente pari a quello delle truppe americane presenti nello stesso teatro. The incident in Nisour Square in Baghdad, in September 2007, brought to light the role that PSFs, private security firms, play in contemporary wars, especially in Iraq. The war in Iraq in fact is the most important example of ‘conflict privatization’ today. More than 140,000 contractors are currently in the field there, a number substantially comparable to that of the American troops present in the same theatre. In this highly privatised scenario, a leading role has been undertaken by Blackwater, a firm that has rapidly become front page news.
