Risposta a Maffettone
Individual and society: defining the relationship
Maffettone's essay is acceptable in the first part, where it passes over well-trodden ground, especially as regards the limitations of 'laissez-faire' policies. In the second, more propositional part, however, his arguments become more fragile. His 'theory of integrity' is vague and poorly defined. It is not sufficient to assume the existence of an intermediary category between the social and the individual to define the forms this interaction might assume. Furthermore, if we wish to follow this line, it is unlikely that we will ever make any progress using Maffettone's totally a-historical approach.
