An End to Hyperinflations

The paper discusses the conditions that are both necessary and sufficient for the ending of hyperinflations. Eleven cases of hyperinflation are presented along with other examples of high inflation. It is demonstrated that, despite the diversity of the single case, the institutional element (in particular, the autonomy of central banks) plays a crucial role in permitting the ending of hyperinflations, or, at least, in accelerating the process considerably.
